Sale director of rugby Steve Diamond has urged his players to build on their LV=Cup win at Harlequins on Friday night when they return to Aviva Premiership action against Worcester next Friday.

The Sharks took advantage of the Quins’ injury problems to exact revenge for last season’s defeat at the hands of the Londoners in the final of the competition and also last month’s 24-3 Premiership mauling at The Stoop.

Flankers Dave Seymour, the fit-again James Gaskell, left wing Rob Miller and replacement Danny Cipriani scored tries for the Sharks, while fly-half Nick Macleod kicked nine points as they ran out 31-26 winners.

Diamond enjoyed the victory but he wants his players to now find some consistency in the league and look to reduce the seven-point gap between themselves and the play-off places.

“We came down here three weeks ago in the Premiership and were beaten fairly soundly by a good side,” Diamond said.

“We have Worcester at home in the Premiership next week and we were looking to build for that. Obviously we want to do well in this competition but the league is the main focus.”

In addition to Gaskell’s return from the broken foot he suffered in pre-season, the Sharks were also boosted by centre Will Addison starting for the first time this season following an ankle operation.
