Exeter Chiefs coach Rob Baxter is looking for his side to continue their positive start to the new Aviva Premiership campaign with a victory against Leicester Tigers.

The Chiefs have hit back from an opening weekend defeat against Northampton to secure successive victories against Wasps at home and London Irish away.

Baxter feels his side have now put down the foundations to go on and enjoy a good season and, while Leicester could put the brakes on their winning momentum, he feels it is the best time to play the top sides as their new players are still settling in.

Therefore he sees no reason why the Chiefs can’t upset the odds against a Tigers side who also have eight points from their opening three matches.

“It is similar to how we have started seasons in the past, so I am comfortable with where we are,” he said.

“Now, though, we have to build on that foundation, collect some points – I don’t mind how we get them – and just make sure we are comfortable with our level of performance.

“The truth is the best teams are not at their best right now,” he added. “This is the time when they bed in and get better, so that is what we have to do.

“Leicester are the reigning champions for a reason, and you have to play well to beat them. We know we have to keep our foot on the gas.”
