World heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko believes Anthony Joshua has the potential to become a “real big star” and has hinted at the possibility of a future fight between the two.

The British star has made a great start to professional boxing since making the step up after winning a gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics and is currently unbeaten from 13 bouts.

The 25-year-old has won every fight by way of knockout so far and his opponents have barely been able to touch him, with the Watford-born fighter yet to be pushed past three rounds.

Joshua’s most impressive performance came against American Kevin Johnson in May, who had not been stopped in 36 previous fights and had gone the distance with Wladimir’s brother, Vitali, who is a former world champion.

The Brit won the fight within two rounds and many are tipping the undefeated fighter to become one of the greatest boxers the country has ever produced.

Klitschko, who fights Britain’s Tyson Fury in October, believes Joshua is an extremely exciting prospect and admitted the duo may fight in the future.

“In 25 years of experience in training camps, he is the highlight,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live. “He definitely has the potential to become a real big star in boxing.

“He needs to improve and eventually it will happen, if I stay where I am today. You cannot pass me since I’ve been holding the titles for many years so if you want to get onto my mountain then you will have to face me.

“So I’m not excluding this chance that eventually we could also meet each other in the ring.”

Klitschko is 1.22 favourite to defeat Fury in October, a draw is at 26.00 while the Brit is a 4.20 shot to cause an upset.
