Leonard Bundu says he is more than happy to get up close and personal with Errol Spence Jr in Sunday’s IBF welterweight eliminator at the Ford Amphitheater in Coney Island, New York.

Bundu is the huge outsider going into the highly anticipated bout and many are expecting a knockout victory by his younger American opponent.

Spence Jr is undefeated from his 20 professional fights, with 17 KOs, and he put in an impressive performance to defeat Chris Algieri at the Barclays Center back in April.

However, the 41-year-old underdog is still feeling confident ahead of the clash and is more than willing to fight in close quarters.

The Sierra Leone-born star, who represented Italy in amateur boxing, is not known for his punching power and the decision to take on Spence from close range comes as a surprise.

Bundu does boast an impressive record, with just one loss from 36 fights, but he will need to be at his best in order to pick up a win this weekend.

The ‘Lion’ is looking forward to the contest and is feeling very confident of pulling off what would be a major upset on American soil.

“I know Spence is a young talent and a very accurate puncher but I think he will have to be cautious against me,” he told fightnews.com.

“I’ve seen he’s now fighting more on his front foot at close quarters, looking for the KO. “It would suit me well, as I also love fighting and countering, provide a good clash for the fans.”

Bundu is 17.00 to win the Brooklyn contest, the draw is priced at 26.00, while Spence is the firm 1.02 favourite to maintain his undefeated record.
