Kell Brook says he is exactly where he wants to be in his preparations ahead of his upcoming fight with Gennady Golovkin.
With a month to go until they meet for Golovkin’s WBC, WBA and IBF middleweight titles at the O2 Arena, the pair were required to weigh in on Wednesday, with Brook surprisingly coming in bang on the 176lbs 30-day limit.
His Kazakh opponent, in contrast, was a trimmer 165lbs and looks as if he will have no problems making the 160lbs middleweight mark.
Brook, who is 6.00 to win, has recently returned to his home town of Sheffield after taking part in an intense training camp in Fuerteventura with trainer Dominic Ingle.
The 30-year-old has been working hard to bulk up, following questions about his ability to step up from welterweight and match the naturally bigger Golovkin over 12 rounds, with the Kazakh 1.14 to win and the draw 26.00.
Both fighters head into their meeting in London unbeaten but ‘GGG’ is the favourite to retain his belts due to doubts over his opponent’s ability to maintain his speed at a heavier weight.
However, Brook says he is exactly where he wants to be and is now concentrating on tailoring his approach ahead of September 10.
“I’m feeling fantastic and I am this weight because I want to be this weight. I am eating non-stop and I am able to push myself very hard in the gym,” Brook told Sky Sports News HQ.
“I am these extra few pounds because I want to be these extra few pounds and I want to be this heavy.
I will be bringing the speed as well as the power into this fight. I am going to shock the world baby.”
