Nathan Cleverly says he is determined to take his chance when he finally makes it into the ring with Jurgen Braehmer on Saturday night.

The Welshman will step out in Neubrandenburg hoping to become the WBA light-heavyweight champion, five years after their previous bout was postponed.

On that occasion Braehmer failed to recover from an eye injury suffered in training, an incident that came following months of negotiations due to the 37-year-old’s issues away from the ring.

As a result, Cleverly was awarded the WBO title and he has since lost the belt, moved up to cruiserweight and returned to the light-heavyweight division.

The 29-year-old has worked hard to get his fight with Braehmer, agreeing to meet him in Germany, with his opponent only competing once outside of his homeland.

He believes he is now a better fighter than five years ago and says he is ready to become a two-time world champion on Saturday.

Cleverly told Sky Sports Boxing: “Five years in the making, this fight. I’m so glad we’re finally here now. It’s been a difficult fight to make.

“I feel more mature now. I’m 29 and more mature mentally and physically. I feel in a better place and I’m ready for chapter two in my career. He added: “It’s too big an opportunity, this.

The world title on the line, Braehmer with history, five years in the making. I just felt this fight needed to happen. I feel ready for it.

I’m hungry and let’s bring that belt back and become a two-time world champion.” Cleverly is currently the 2.63 underdog, with Braehmer priced at 1.50 and the draw 23.00.
