Connections of Un De Sceaux are confident their charge can returning to winning ways in the Devenish Chase at Fairyhouse on Monday after his surprise defeat in the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham.

The 10-year-old went into the race at Prestbury Park as the odds-on favourite but was no match for Balko Des Flos last month.

Willie Mullins’ 10-year-old will favour the conditions at Fairyhouse this week and he is expected to respond when he comes up against the likes of Coney Island, A Toi Phil and Champagne West.

Un De Sceaux, who is 1.91 to win, will drop down in trip and give away weight on Monday, but part-owner Colm O’Connell is confident ahead of the race.

He told reporters: “Away we go again, we’ve got his ground.

“I don’t want to give any excuses, on the day he wasn’t good enough in the Ryanair. He had his ground, he had everything.

I’ve looked at it a couple of times, but the result is still the same. Monday is a way of looking forward, we can forget the past.

“He’s giving weight away, but he still comes out top on the figures. We’ll go there confident but, after what happened, with respect of the opposition.

“If he wins we can head to Punchestown with a spring in his step. We go there confident but a small bit more reserved.”
