Trainer Michael Dods has entered Mecca’s Angel (10.00) for Friday’s Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes but the sprinter will only run if the ground is good for the race.
Dods’ charge is among the 24 confirmed entries for Friday’s £310,000 Group 1 encounter but he will be keeping a close eye on the weather over the course of the week before making a final decision.
He said: “The weather is the issue because she definitely needs to get her toe in. We’ll definitely leave her in and hope that the rain keeps a bit of cut in the ground.
“As long as the ground is no faster than ‘good’ – and towards the easier side of ‘good’ – then she would take her chance. But if there was any firm in it, we wouldn’t be taking the chance.
Dods is hoping the weather suits as he confirmed the horse is in good shape and would relish the challenge at York.
He added: “She is in great form. I’m very pleased with her. Paul Mulrennan rode her in the middle of this week in a gallop. He was very happy with her. She is ready to run but the ground is the most important factor with her. If she doesn’t get her ground, then she would struggle.”
Other contenders for the Nunthorpe include Acapulco (2.75), Sole Power (7.00) Muthmir (6.00), Goldream, Pearl Secret (both 17.00), while Mattmu (26.00) looks a lively outsider.
