The New One could make his first appearance of the season in the Betfair Price Rush Hurdle at Haydock on November 19, as trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies continues to be thwarted by unseasonably dry conditions.

The Gloucestershire-based trainer is keen to send the eight-year-old chasing this season, but his debut over larger obstacles has been consistently delayed due to the fair weather.

Twiston-Davies admits he is frustrated by the conditions, particularly as the bay gelding is ready to return to competitive action, but he did confirm that the horse could make his seasonal bow over hurdles at Haydock later this month.

“He would only run at Haydock if it poured down the week before and we’d been unable to run him over fences,” said Twiston-Davies.

“He’s ready to run now, but the ground is not playing ball. I’ve never known it be this dry at this time of year, it’s very depressing.”

The New One will be hoping to get plenty of race action under his belt ahead of next year’s Cheltenham Festival, where he is expected to run in the Champion Hurdle.

This Irish horse has tasted success at the Festival in the past, winning the Neptune Novices Hurdle in 2013, although he could only finish fourth in the Champion Hurdle earlier this year.

Twiston-Davies will be hoping The New One can fair better at next year’s race, with the bay gelding currently on offer at 51.00 to win the 2017 Champion Hurdle.
