Trainer Owen Burrows has revealed that Massaat will prepare for next month’s Qipco 2000 Guineas with a racecourse gallop during the upcoming Craven Meeting at Newmarket.
The three-year-old was last in action when he finished second behind Air Force Blue in the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket last October.
The Bay Colt has finished in the top two in all three of his races to date, including a victory in the British Stallion Studs EBF Kegworth Maiden Stakes at Leicester, and Burrows admits that he is pleased with the horse’s form ahead of the 2000 Guineas on April 30.
He said: “Touch wood Massaat is in good nick and I am very pleased with him. I did contemplate giving him a run beforehand, but timing-wise it didn’t work out.”
The trainer confirmed that Massaat will prepare for the Grade One event with a racecourse gallop at the Rowley Mile during the Craven Meeting that is due to take place between April 12 and 14.
He added: “The plan is to send him to the Rowley Mile for a racecourse gallop at the Craven meeting, then go straight for the 2000 Guineas. He can go up overnight and have a trip away from the yard, all being well. We’ve yet to decide which day it will be that he works.”
Massaat is available at 15.00 to secure a victory in the 2000 Guineas, while his old foe Air Force Blue is the current favourite at 2.10 to win the Grade One event.
