American Ryan Moore managed to hold on as he won the John Deere Classic in Illinois by two shots despite a late charge from fellow countrymen Ben Martin.

Moore was in impressive form throughout the tournament and he hit three consecutive rounds of 65 going into the last day.

He managed to finish with a bogey-free 67 on Sunday at TPC Deere Run and that was enough to win his fifth PGA Tour title.

The 33-year-old eventually finished on 22-under par and his fast start allowed him to move clear on Sunday.

However, Martin did everything he could after converting three birdies along the back nine to push himself into second.

The duo shared three consecutive pars towards the end of the final round but Martin missed his birdie putt and Moore was then able to tap home to secure his win.

Speaking after the final round, Moore admitted he did just enough to seal the victory.

He told Sky Sports 4: “I was trying to make birdies coming down the stretch but I couldn’t get any putts to go.

In the end though I snuck it out.” Whee Kim finished in a tie for third alongside American Morgan Hoffman who could only finish with a 71.

Ricky Barnes, Kelly Kraft, Johnson Wagner all finished in a tie for fifth, while Kevin Na ended his tournament with a 64 to sit inside the top 10.
