Mercedes boss Toto Wolff believes it is only a matter of time before Nico Rosberg wins his first race of the 2015 campaign.

The German has failed to secure a victory since the penultimate Grand Prix of the 2014 campaign in Brazil, whilst team mate Lewis Hamilton has three victories to his name in 2015 already.

The duo’s contrasting form has led to the British driver opening up a 27 point advantage over Rosberg at the top of the Drivers’ Championship, with Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel, who has won the only other race of the season to date, a point further back in third position.

Despite this gap, Wolff is convinced there is little to separate the Mercedes pair.

He said: “When you look at their performance in qualifying in China, for example, there were just four hundredths [of a second] between them. That is a tiny little edge which was enough for Lewis to make it on pole and control the race. It could have been completely different if Nico had been on pole.”

The Austrian is sure that it is only a matter of time before the 29-year-old secures another race victory, particularly considering the consistency the German has shown to finish in the top three at least in every race so far this campaign.

He added: “I fully expect him to come bouncing back. I don’t know when it will happen, but he’s always going to be there, no doubt.”

Rosberg will return to race action at the Spanish Grand Prix this week where he will be hoping to end his run of races without a victory and in doing so secure his first success at the Circuit de Catalunya.
