English Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers have stepped up their interest in Paris Saint-Germain striker Hugo Ekitiké.

Wolves want to replace Sasa Kaladjzic, who has joined Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt on loan till the summer.

L’Équipe reported that Wolves want Ekitiké who made a cameo appearance on the opening day of the Ligue 1 season as part of reinforcement in the striking department.

The strike has not featured since the opening day, and he reportedly enraged the club’s hierarchy when he refused to move the other way in a swap deal for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani.

Although Kolo Muani eventually completed a move to the Paris club, Ekitiké has seemingly not been forgiven for his refusal to facilitate a player-plus-cash deal, and he has been ostracised ever since.

Wolves are reportedly in competition with Wolfsburg for the signature of Ekitiké.

Information from close quarters says the Frenchman is desperate for a move this January.

With this update, Ekitiké is nonetheless receiving significant interest despite not having established himself at the club.

Wolfsburg have also contacted PSG over a paid loan move, which doesn’t include an option to make the move permanent.

RMC Sport says Wolves had already enquired about Ekitiké and are now taking their interest further.

L’Équipe reported that the Premier League side is continuing to discuss a loan deal, which is different from Wolfsburg’s offer, as it includes the option to make the move permanent.

Wolfsburg and Wolves remain the two teams leading the race to sign the former Stade de Reims forward.

As things stand, Ekitiké’s future does not lie at the Parc des Princes. They could make a significant amount on him if they sell on time. Wolves’ offer to take the Frenchman off PSG’s hands on a permanent basis could give them an edge over the German club.
