West Brom forward Victor Anichebe has told the club’s rising star Saido Berahino to remain grounded.
Berahino has forced his way into the England squad after some impressive performances for Albion this season, including a run of five goals in four games.
The youngster has been tentatively linked with a move away from the Hawthorns, although Chairman Jeremy Peace has stressed he will not be sold in January, but Anichebe has told his strike partner not to get caught up in the “hype” surrounding him at present.
The former Everton striker is confident Berahino will fulfil his potential, as long as he continues to work hard.
“It is very difficult and you can get caught up in the hype but as long as you have good people around you then you should be okay. As much as they’re building him up now, if he starts playing badly people will bring him down again,” he said.
“As soon as you don’t have the level of performances you should have you will find it difficult, but he’s a good kid and is positive and really believes in himself so I’m sure he’ll continue to fulfil his potential.
“I always sing his praises because he’s a quality player and he will be a quality player for years to come if he can keep his head right.”
Berahino will be keen to get his name on the scoresheet when the Baggies travel to Chelsea on Saturday after three games without a goal.
West Brom are 13.01 to come away from Stamford Bridge with all three points, a win for the hosts is 1.21 and a draw can be backed at 6.00.
