Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney is confident his team can challenge for the Premier League title after a positive pre-season campaign.

After two disappointing seasons, the Red Devils board turned to Jose Mourinho who has moved quickly to stamp his authority on the first-team.

Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have all joined the club and Juventus star Paul Pogba is reportedly on his way to Old Trafford.

Ibrahimovic produced the goods on Saturday in his first start for the club as he scored an overhead kick in the 5-2 win over Galatasaray in Sweden.

The former Paris Saint-Germain star is expected to make a big impact in Manchester this season and Rooney admits there is a real buzz around the club.

Speaking ahead of the new campaign, the England captain believes the club can compete for the Premier League trophy, which you can back at odds of 4.50 with Dafabet.

“I think the players feel this is more like the old Manchester United.

It’s not just the new signings, we’ve got Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford from last season who made such an impact,” he told reporters.

“We’re in a very good spot now, we think we can challenge for the Premier League, and we want to put a marker down, in the Community Shield with Leicester.

“I know it’s a one-off game, but we want to show we can win a trophy early on – we feel that’s an important event for us.”
