Manchester United have doubts over the fitness of Marouane Fellaini, Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic and Chris Smalling ahead of the Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk.
United have already secured their place in the knockout stages of the tournament but still require a point to seal top spot in Group A.
However, it looks like they will have to do it without a quartet of players who were all forced to sit out training on Monday morning with various problems.
Fellaini has a back injury and boss David Moyes has confirmed he is one of four players struggling to make Tuesday night’s clash at Old Trafford.
Moyes said he was dealing with a few knocks ahead of the game, and when asked if he meant Fellaini and co, he replied ‘yes’.
United go into the game lacking confidence following back-to-back home defeats in the Premier League and are in need of a good result against Shakhtar.
“It is tough,” said Moyes. “The expectation here is to win all the games.”
Meanwhile, Moyes says the Manchester United fans understand the club is going through a period of transition following the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson and he expects them to stay behind the club.
“They all understand it (the bigger picture),” said Moyes. “Most of them know exactly. Of course no-one expects Manchester United to lose games, no more so than me, but it is a fact and my job is to make it better.”
