Inter Milan secured an important three points against RB Leipzig on day three of the UEFA Champions League.
Nerazurri were tempted to easily dispatch their visitors, but their victory was tougher than expected, all thanks to goals from Alexis Sanchez and Hakan Calhanoglu that allowed Inter to get the better of the Austrian side.
This is a big step towards Champions League qualification, as the Nerazzurri were only one point ahead of their opponents going into this match.

The Austrians entered the match after an away victory against 10-man Benfica in Lisbon.
The visitors made a strong start, as Oscar Gloukh’s angled drive forced a tricky one-handed Yann Sommer save in the opening four minutes.

Inter later went ahead when Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s slide-rule pass went beyond Davide Frattesi and found Alexis Sanchez, who swept in with the inside of his right boot.

Inter almost made it two as Dedic risked scoring an own goal with his interception of the Denzel Dumfries ball across the face of the goal. Pavlovic also prevented a crucial Benjamin Pavard knockdown from reaching Frattesi on the Hakan Calhanoglu free kick.

Inter removed Mkhitaryan at half-time as he was on a yellow card, while Carlos Augusto’s volley into the ground flashed wide.

RB Salzburg eventually got rewarded for their constant attack when they equalised with a well-worked team move. The ball was laid off for Gloukh, who swept it in from the edge of the area.

Lucas Gourna-Douath and Strahinja Pavlovic committed a penalty after falling Frattesi in the box.
Calhanoglu calmly converted by drilling into the near bottom corner.

Inter thought they had made it three when Lautaro Martinez scored on 81 minutes after a well-worked move involving Marcus Thuram and Frattesi, but the Italian was offside.
