Burnley captain Tom Heaton is adamant that the club have learned their lessons from their Premier League
experience two years ago.
The Clarets, 1.67 to be relegated, were sent back down to the Championship two seasons ago after failing to adapt quickly under manager Sean Dyche.
Dyche’s men regrouped and returned last season and the club were able to spend in the transfer window as a result.
Midfielder Steven Defour has made a huge impact in midfield and Dyche’s side sit 14th in the table after seven games.
In the last three games Burnley have played with three in midfielder, rather than their traditional 4-4-2 and Heaton believes they are continuing to learn each week.
Burnley will take on Southampton on Sunday and Heaton insists the squad are ready for another test. He told the Lancashire Telegraph: “I think we’re wiser to it. We’ve learnt what it’s about.
“You need to able to handle the ball at times and take the pressure off from defending, which we can do but you don’t want to defend for 90 minutes. That’s one of the big learners.
“I think (we have more firepower). That and maybe more options to do slightly different things. We’re looking to build and improve all the time.
“We’ve got two wins on the board, that was important for us, and it was two excellent wins. “There’s excitement around.
We could be stood here with more points on the board, we’re not, we’ve got seven, we’re doing alright and we’re still building and improving.”
