QPR winger Leroy Fer’s proposed move to Sunderland has fallen through after he failed to pass a medical on Wearside.

The Dutchman was in Sunderland on Wednesday to undergo his physical examination and agree terms after the two clubs had agreed a season-long loan deal.

However, Fer’s agent confirmed the deal was not going through as his player is currently carrying an injury and he has now gone back to Loftus Road.

Rob Jansen, told the Dutch press: “Leroy currently has an injury which means he is not immediately available.

“He is now trying to get fit at Queens Park Rangers.”

The 25-year-old was expected to be unveiled by Sunderland but that is now off the agenda.

It is also the second time that Fer has seen a transfer fall through due to a failed medical after his £8.5m move to Everton collapsed in the summer of 2013 due to a knee problem, prior to the ex-Feyenoord man joining Norwich City.

Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat is now believed to pursuing a loan-deal to bring Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj to the Stadium of Light for this season instead.

The Black Cats boss has yet to make a formal approach to counterpart and compatriot Louis van Gaal about taking Januzaj from Old Trafford for a season.

The 20-year-old could find himself behind Memphis Depay, Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia and Juan Mata in the pecking order at Man United this season.

Sunderland start the new Premier League season with a trip to Leicester City on Saturday, a game Advocaat’s team are 4.00 to win.

Leicester are 2.00 with the draw 3.40 at the Kingpower Stadium.
