Stoke City chief executive Tony Scholes believes the club have secured a real coup after the signing of Netherlands international Ibrahim Afellay.

The Potters have continued their transfer drive through the summer and have managed to secure another acquisition from La Liga champions Barcelona.

Bojan, Marc Muniesa and Moha have all recently made the switch from the Camp Nou to the Britannia Stadium, with manager Mark Hughes bringing in a host of players who like to keep the ball on the ground.

Having had loan spells in Germany with Schalke and Greece with Olympiakos, winger Affelay is now set for his first spell in the Premier League with the Potters.

Scholes has been delighted by the acquisition of the 29-year-old and feels the Dutchman will be able to settle in at the Staffordshire outfit thanks to the other former Blaugrana players.

He said: “It’s no secret that Ibrahim was wanted by a number of clubs and we are understandably delighted that he has chosen to join us.

“He’s clearly excited about the prospect of playing in the Premier League and the fact that he knows so many players who are already at the club will no doubt help him settle into his new surroundings.”

Having penned a two-year deal at Stoke, Affelay will be looking to get off to a strong start when the Potters host Liverpool in the Premier League on August 9.

Stoke are 3.00 to win, 3.30 to draw and it is 2.30 for a Reds victory at the Britannia Stadium.
