Manager Slaven Bilic could offer little in the way of an explanation after watching West Ham deliver a “flat” performance in their 1-1 draw with Stoke.

The Hammers failed to ignite for long spells in the London Stadium stalemate and they conceded what Bilic termed a “cheap” leveller to Mark Hughes’ side.

Michail Antonio’s deflected header gave West Ham an advantage in the second half but a misjudgment from goalkeeper Adrian allowed Stoke’s Bojan to restore parity.

Reflecting on his own side’s performance, Bilic felt there was little to suggest that such an underwhelming effort was coming.

“We looked sharp in training and in the last few games, and there was really no reason. We didn’t have a midweek game. It was just…flat,” he said.

“A point is a point and it’s a fair result but we were looking for three. It wasn’t a good game of football and no team deserved to win.”

Having earned the lead, Bilic was disappointed to allow Stoke back into the game from an error. Adrian was guilty, said his manager, but mistakes are part and parcel of the game.

“It was a mistake. Mistakes happen, and unfortunately he made one because he misjudged the timing,” he added. “It was very cheap at a crucial moment of the game when you’re 1-0 up and playing good.”

The draw with Stoke means West Ham will go into the international break in the Premier League’s bottom five after just three wins in eleven games this season. West Ham are 7.50 to be relegated from the top flight this season.
