Liverpool have confirmed that striker Mario Balotelli has completed his loan move to AC Milan just days before the end of the transfer window.

The former Manchester City hitman will want to forget his time on Merseyside after scoring just one goal in 16 Premier League games for the Reds.

He left Milan last summer to sign for Brendan Rodgers’ side for £16million but was unable to make an impact.

Rodgers has already added Divock Origi, Danny Ings and Christian Benteke to his squad over the summer and Balotelli’s Liverpool career now appears to be over.

Milan, 17.00 to win the Serie A title, have apparently warned Balotelli about his behaviour but are still willing to take a chance on him as they try to put the pressure on the likes of Juventus and Roma.

“I’m grateful to Liverpool FC and Liverpool fans for the time and opportunities you gave me,” Balotelli wrote on Facebook.

“It’s not a goodbye but rather a farewell. I’ll be supporting you guys all the way in every competition… unless you face AC Milan.”

Rodgers left Balotelli out of Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Australia and the Far East and he had also been training away from the first team.

Balotelli missed the club’s first three Premier League games – against Stoke, Bournemouth and Arsenal – and will now link up with his new team-mates back in Italy.
