AC Milan have confirmed that former manager Carlo Ancelotti will decide next week whether or not to accept their offer of a return to the San Siro dugout.

Ancelotti was sacked by Real Madrid after two seasons in charge of the Spanish giants on Monday and he had signalled his desire to take a year out from football.

However, Milan have moved swiftly to try and persuade the experienced coach to come back to Italy and help the club get back on track after two deeply disappointing campaigns for the Rossoneri.

Vice-president Adriano Galliani held a second meeting with Ancelotti in Spain on Thursday, hoping to convince the Italian tactician to return to the San Siro.

He has now confirmed that Ancelotti will inform Milan of his decision next week.

“Carlo will give us a definite answer next Wednesday,” Galliani told Italian TV station Sport Mediaset.
“According to Carlo, there’s a 50% chance he will accept.

“But it will be 50% until Wednesday and then it will be either 100% or nothing.”

The Rossoneri, under first-year coach Filippo Inzaghi, can finish no higher than eighth in Serie A this season and will miss out again on European football.

Galliani says Ancelotti would be the ideal candidate to transform their fortunes, given his level of experience.

“Why Ancelotti? Nobody has a CV like his,” Galliani added. “He has coached Juventus, Milan, Chelsea, Paris St Germain and Real Madrid.

“Not even [Chelsea coach Jose] Mourinho has a similar CV, nor does [Bayern Munich coach Pep] Guardiola.”
