Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla wants to return to Spain and join Atletico Madrid this summer, according to reports in Spain.

The diminutive midfielder only recently signed a new contract with the Gunners but the north London club may be tempted to sell the star if offered around £20 million. Why Cazorla wants to return to Spain is unclear as he did look settled at Emirates Stadium.

AS report that El Atleti were interested in the midfielder in January but the funds were not in place to push a move through. However, with the impending sale of Diego Costa to Chelsea garnering £32 million, money should be available for Diego Simeone to strengthen his La Liga title-winning squad.

Cazorla is currently on World Cup duty with Spain and will not be making a decision until after the showpiece FIFA tournament in Brazil, which, considering the manner of his country’s 5-1 defeat to the Netherlands, could be a lot sooner than expected – Spain have now drifted to 12.00 in the World Cup outright betting.

If Cazorla is to leave then it begs the question of whether or not manager Arsene Wenger should have re-signed former fans’ favourite and Chelsea new-boy Cesc Fabregas.
