Red Devils seeking redemption

Daniel James says Manchester United will look to redeem themselves when they travel to face Southampton in the Premier League next weekend.

United’s unbeaten start to the season was ended in dramatic fashion by Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Saturday. The Eagles arrived at the Theatre of Dreams on the back of successive defeats and without a goal to their name this season. However, Jordan Ayew corrected that record when he broke the deadlock to give Palace a shock lead in the first half.

Marcus Rashford spurned the chance to level from the penalty spot before United appeared to have snatched a point in the final minute of regulation time. Summer signing James curled one home to level the score but the Red Devils weren’t satisfied with a point and went searching for a winner.

However, they were caught on the counter by Palace deep into additional time as Patrick van Aanholt struck to restore Palace’s lead and wrap up a 2-1 win. Ole Gunnar Solskajer’s men are back in action next Saturday when they travel to Southampton who claimed their first win of the campaign at Brighton last time out.

Saints also have a midweek Carabao Cup tie to contend with so United, who are priced at 2.38 to finish in the top four, should be fresher for the clash on the south coast. James is expecting a completely different test at St Mary’s and has urged United to bounce back.

“We want to redeem ourselves. This game is something that we’ll look back on and look at what we could’ve done better,” James told United’s official website. “The Southampton game next week will be a completely different test and we’ve got to be ready for it.”
