Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek is delighted to have signed a new deal at Stamford Bridge and is looking forward to working under new boss Frank Lampard.
Lampard, Chelsea’s all-time record goalscorer, was confirmed as Maurizio Sarri’s successor earlier this month after one season in charge of Championship outfit Derby County.
Former Blues midfielder Jody Morris is the club’s new assistant after following Lampard in making then move from the Rams, and Loftus-Cheek has welcomed their arrival at Stamford Bridge. He told the club website: “I’m really looking forward to the new season with Frank as manager.
“I watched him a lot in my youth team days and now it’s a great opportunity for me to learn and grow under him. He obviously played in midfield like me and scored a lot of goals from that position, which is something I want to do as well.
“It’s exciting times for the club. I played with Jody a bit with the Under-21s [when Morris first returned to Chelsea at the end of his playing career] and they did so well last year at Derby. For them to combine their knowledge and experience with the youth coming through could be really interesting.”
Loftus-Cheek recently put pen to paper on a new five-year deal, and he says he is “really happy” to have committed himself to the club and hopes to help Chelsea challenge for silverware in the years ahead.
He said: “I hope to win a lot more trophies with the team and personally it’s just about trying to do as well as I can and work hard to be a key player for Chelsea.”
Chelsea are 23.00 to win the Premier League outright next season and 3.30 to win their season opener against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
