Arsenal have received a boost with the news that Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac have returned to training.

The duo missed the Gunners opening-day victory at Newcastle due to concerns over their safety following the carjacking ordeal at the end of last month. Thugs targeted the vehicle that they were travelling in and further security issues meant they were absent from the trip to St James’ Park last weekend.

It remains to be seen if the duo are available for selection when the north Londoners welcome Burnley to the Emirate Stadium on Saturday, with Arsenal priced at 1.33 to take all three points and the Clarets on offer at 9.50.

However, the fact the duo showed up at the club’s London Colney training base on Wednesday is a step in the right direction. Ozil sat in the back seat of his car when travelling to training while Kolasinac was a passenger of team-mate Shkodran Mustafi.

Security has been stepped up at both players’ houses and the police have made to arrests but it is not the way the pair wanted to begin the season, with Unai Emery’s men targeting a return to the top four.

They are 2.20 to achieve that feat while priced at 34.00 to win their first Premier League title since 2004.

A solid start will be vital if they are to challenge the big boys but, after the visit of Sean Dyche’s side, they have two tricky encounters, with a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool before the small matter of a north London derby on home soil.
