Midfielder Granit Xhaka believes Arsenal can achieve something special this season despite suffering a heavy loss at the hands of Liverpool on Saturday.

Arsenal, who are priced at 2.00 to finish in the top four, travelled to Liverpool on the back of successive victories but it was always likely to be a tough afternoon against the Reds when considering their recent record at Anfield.

True to form, Liverpool had far too much for the Gunners as a brace from Mohamed Salah and a header from Joel Matip cancelled out Lucas Torreira’s late effort to seal a 3-1 win.

Liverpool are the only side to boast a perfect record with three games played this season in the Premier League and Xhaka isn’t reading too much into the performance.

The Swiss star feels many clubs will struggle to match Liverpool, especially on their own patch, and insists Arsenal will stay positive for the next few weeks as they look to achieve something “special”.

Xhaka said: “It’s not only for us, a lot of teams find it difficult when they come here. It’s one game and we’ve lost today but we have to be positive for the next few weeks. “We can do something special this season but we have to work a lot to improve things. After, we will see at the end of the season.”

They host north London rivals Tottenham next Sunday and Xhaka is confident they can return to winning ways against last season’s Champions League runners up. He added: “We know how important it is for the fans, the club and for us.

“We have shown in the last few years that we can have very good games against them. Let’s start getting ready this week so we’re ready to play against Spurs.”
