Juventus vice-president Pavel Nedved says one of the club’s main goals for the season is to win the Champions League.

The Bianconeri have re-established themselves as the dominant force in Serie A in recent years, winning the Scudetto title for the last five seasons.

However, consistency in Europe is something that continues to elude them, as aside from reaching the final in 2015 they have otherwise not made it past the quarter-final stage.

Despite losing Paul Pogba and Alvaro Morata over the summer, Juve again invested well, with the signings of Gonzalo Higuain and Miralem Pjanic amongst others, and have made a flying start to the campaign at both home and abroad.

The club’s last Champions League title came in 1996, a victory that marked the start of a period where they reached the final for three straight years.

Nedved himself never got to play in European club football’s showpiece, having been suspended when the Old Lady lost to AC Milan in 2003.

Since retiring in 2009, the 44-year-old has worked in the boardroom for the Turin club and has been president Andrea Agnelli’s right-hand man since 2015.

He admits the club’s hierarchy have been pleased with the strides they have made domestically in recent years and insists the time is now right for them to start transferring their dominance on to the continental stage.

“With Juventus we’ve returned to the top in Italy,” Nedved said. “Now President Andrea Agnelli wants to get back to the top in Europe.

“We want to win the Champions League, we’ll try.” Juventus are currently 12.00 to win this season’s Champions League, with Barcelona the favourites at 3.80.
