Midfielder Paul Pogba insists this summer was the right time to return to Manchester United after he completed his world-record transfer fee of £89million.

Pogba’s move brings an end to the intense transfer speculation which has gone on for several months.

The France international, who helped his country reach the final of Euro 2016, has spent the last few weeks on holiday but he completed his switch early on Tuesday morning.

He joined United from Le Havre in 2009 as a 16-year-old but he made just seven senior appearances for the Red Devils, all from the bench.

The 23-year-old then left for Juventus in 2012 and won four Serie A title in a row with the Italian giants but he has now decided to return to Old Trafford.

Pogba has signed a five-year contract at United and he becomes Jose Mourinho’s four signing this summer.

Ivory Coast defender Eric Bailly, Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Armenia forward Henrikh Mkhitaryan have already moved and Pogba insists he is relishing the chance to work under Mourinho.

He told reporters: “I am delighted to rejoin United.

It has always been a club with a special place in my heart and I am really looking forward to working with Jose Mourinho.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Juventus and have some fantastic memories of a great club with players that I count as friends.

“But I feel the time is right to go back to Old Trafford. I always enjoyed playing in front of the fans and can’t wait to make my contribution to the team.

This is the right club for me to achieve everything I hope to in the game.” Pogba will be hoping he can help his new club win the league this year and the Red Devils are priced at 4.20 to lift the Premier League trophy.
