Paul Clemet has signed a three-year contract to become Derby County’s new manager and has vowed to get the club back into the Premier League.
The 43-year-old left his role as Real Madrid assistant boss last week following the sacking of coach Carlo Ancelotti and he will now take up his first managerial role at the iPro Stadium.
Clement replaces Steve McClaren in the hotseat after the former England boss was sacked a week ago having failed to guide the Rams to the Championship play-offs, despite them battling for an automatic promotion place in March.
The former Paris Saint-Germain assistant boss is “excited” to be given the opportunity to take over at Derby and he is looking to finally give the supporters something to cheer about next season.
He told the club’s website: “This is a massive club with fantastic facilities and a superb fan base who deserve success.
“Having spoken with (Derby chief executive) Sam Rush and the owners, I firmly believe we share the same desires and ambitions and that is to once again make Derby County a Premier League club.”
Rush is delighted to secure the services of Clement and claims they beat off some strong competition to get him to the East Midlands.
Rush added: “He is hugely respected, has exceptional relationships throughout football and tremendous coaching experience at some of the very best clubs in Europe.
“He is the perfect appointment at the next stage of Derby County’s development and we are looking forward to the coming season with a great deal of optimism.”
