Former Derby County manager Paul Clement has confirmed he has rejected the chance to work for Sam Allardyce as part of his England coaching staff.

The former Sunderland boss was hired by the FA last month just weeks after Roy Hodgson resigned following a disappointing Euro 2016 campaign.

Allardyce immediately appointed former Bolton colleague Sammy Lee as his assistant but Clement was also on his radar.

Clement has recently joined Bayern Munich as one of Carlo Ancelotti’s assistants as the pair continue their working relationship.

The duo worked together at Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid but the Bavarians wanted Clement to stay with the club, rather than split his time with the England camp.

With speculation rife, Clement has confirmed he rejected the move as he wishes to focus on Bayern, but he has wished Allardyce well for the future.

He tweeted: “Following recent media reports I would like to clarify the situation with regards to a possible role with the England national team.

“After consultation between FC Bayern, the FA and myself it was decided that it is in the best interests of everyone involved for me to concentrate solely on the job I have in Munich.

“I would like to wish success to Sam, the FA and the England team.”

Allardyce will now have to look elsewhere before England’s 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.

The Three Lions have been drawn against Scotland, Lithuania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Malta in their qualifying group and they can be backed at odds of 19.00 to win the World Cup in Russia.
