Sunderland left-back Patrick van Aanholt has claimed he is feeling fit despite being withdrawn from Sunday’s clash with Tottenham due to a health scare.
The Dutchman was expected to start the game at the weekend but he was replaced before kick off by Jason Denayer.
Sunderland eventually fell to a 1-0 defeat due to Harry Kane’s strike but talk after the match focused on Van Aanholt’s withdrawal.
Black Cats boss David Moyes confirmed on Tuesday that the defender had been withdrawn due to results of a standard cardiology scan.
Van Aanholt’s results are believed to have been given to the club by an independent expert cardiologist but the 26-year-old has since undergone further checks and been cleared to play ahead of another busy week for the club.
Speaking ahead of his side’s EFL Cup clash against Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday, Van Aanholt insists he feels ready to go after being surprised at the results over the weekend.
He told Voetbal International: “I was indeed surprised, because there is really nothing to worry about. I’ve been sick last week. I picked up a virus and that would have crept in my body, possibly even to my heart.
“We had to make a scan, but the scan is offered late or too late at the FA and therefore I had to sit in the stand. I felt nothing in my heart.
I’m just fit.” Sunderland are the 2.50 favourites to beat QPR, with the draw 3.40, while the Championship side are available at odds of 2.88 with Dafabet.
