Newcastle boss Steve McClaren believes that strike duo Papiss Cisse and Ayoze Perez can help fire his side up the Premier League table.

The Magpies currently sit second from bottom in the standings after picking up just two points from their first four league matches and they have also failed to find the back of the net in the league since their 2-2 draw with Southampton on the opening weekend of the season.

The north east club will be without summer signing Aleksandar Mitrovic for their next match at West Ham on Monday night after the Serbian striker was shown a straight red card during the team’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal last time out.

Despite the absence of the £13million acquisition, the Magpies boss has complete faith in fellow strikers Cisse and Perez, who will be looking to seize their opportunity against the Hammers.

McClaren said: “We have Papiss Cisse and Ayoze Perez who will be looking to prove a point, as all strikers do, and I believe we have enough quality in that position to get goals.”

The 54-year-old is convinced his side will start winning soon, as he chases his first three-point haul since taking charge of the club in the summer, but he admits they must start creating more chances to give his front men more opportunities to score.

He continued: “We need the breaks. We need to play better football, create more chances, score more goals and the results will come.”

Newcastle are outsiders to secure what will be only their second win in 16 matches at 3.30 whilst the Hammers are available at 2.25 and the draw is on offer at 3.40.
