New Liverpool signing Christian Benteke has set his sights on winning trophies after he completed his switch to the club from Premier League rivals Aston Villa.

The Belgian striker became the Reds’ second most expensive signing of all time following his £32.5millon switch, with the club confirming that the 24-year-old has signed a long-term deal on Merseyside.

The former Genk forward scored 49 goals in 101 appearances during a three-year stint at Villa, but he admitted he is excited by the prospect of playing for one of Europe’s most decorated sides.

He said: “I think when I came here with Aston Villa [it was] a great feeling to play at Anfield. Now, to be in the home shirt is going to be an exciting feeling.

“I know Liverpool is a big story. They’ve won league titles and the Champions League five times and of course the UEFA Cup and a lot of trophies. I know it’s a big club.”

The frontman is hopeful of adding to the club’s success during his spell with the Reds and has set his sights on winning as many trophies as he can at Anfield.

Benteke added: “I came here to win trophies. I came here to reach some great goals with the team.”

The Belgian international is Brendan Rodgers’ seventh signing of the summer following the arrivals of Danny Ings, James Milner, Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez, Roberto Firmino and Nathaniel Clyne, and the club have now spent over £75million during the current transfer window.

Rodgers is keen to fill the void left by the departed Steven Gerrard and Raheem Sterling as the club looks to improve on last season’s sixth-place finish in the Premier League.

The Merseyside outfit are available at 3.50 to finish in the top four and are on offer at 26.00 to secure their first league title since 1990.
