Manchester United boss David Moyes has heaped praise on his side after an impressive 4-1 victory away at Swansea on the opening day of Premier League season.

Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck grabbed a brace apiece to hand the former Everton and Preston boss his first league victory in charge of the defending champions.

Van Persie opened the scoring with an athletic effort before Welbeck was handed the chance to tap home from a couple of yards out just two minutes later.

The Dutch international’s powerful strike had the Red Devils almost home and dry at 3-0 before new Swansea signing Wilfried Bony clawed one back on his league debut. However, Welbeck capped off the evening fixture with a lovely chip to ensure the three points would be going back to Old Trafford.

“It very much was a Manchester United display,” Moyes enthused. “We were clinical in attack and I am very pleased.

“This is a tough place to come and we won well in the end.”

Moyes stepped into the role vacated by Sir Alex Ferguson during the summer and has attracted a lot of attention after a mixed bag of results during pre-season, along with his failed attempts so far in the transfer market.

However, the Scot did claim his first piece of silverware with the club last weekend with a comfortable victory over FA Cup winners Wigan in the Community Shield.
