Moussa Dembele believes his personal battle with Leigh Griffiths can only be good for Celtic’s chances of success.

The Frenchman joined the Bhoys in the summer and has had the opportunity to lead the line in Griffiths’ recent absence with first a hamstring injury and then a calf problem.

Dembele has impressed during this time, most notably netting a hat-trick in the 5-1 win over Old Firm rivals Rangers.

He did, however, have a reality check when he missed a penalty against Barcelona and will now have to ensure he is on his game with Griffiths set to return to the squad for Saturday’s clash Kilmarnock.

Brendan Rodgers’ men are 1.14 to win the clash, with the draw 9.00 and Killie priced at 23.00.

The Scot already has seven goals to his name this season and after netting 40 times in all competitions last term, appears a man in his prime.

With boss Rodgers often preferring to play with just a single striker, the competition between the pair could prove fierce.

Dembele is unworried though and believes that the battle between he and Griffiths can only help the Bhoys improve as the season goes on.

“I would say a friendly competition, the team comes first,” he said. “If I can score I will score, if I can give the ball to Leigh I will give it to him.

“In a team you need players who compete (between) themselves and having Leigh here is a good thing for me.

“It will make me a better player and him a better player so it is good for the team.”
