Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri believes his team still has room to improve after their 3-1 Champions League final defeat against Barcelona in Berlin on Saturday night.

The Old Lady of Turin went into the game looking to secure a treble success following their Serie A and Coppa Italia glory in the domestic game in Italy this past season.

However they fell just short against Luis Enrique’s Barca despite Alvaro Morata cancelling out Ivan Rakitic’s fourth-minute opener early in the second half which appeared to give Juve a sense that it could be their year.

But Luis Suarez dashed their hopes when he fired Barca back in front on 68 minutes and Neymar sealed the win with the final kick of the game in the seventh minute of injury time.

It ensured Barca an historic second treble in the space of six years and left Allgeri striving for his team to stay among the elite group of teams in Europe looking ahead to the future.

He said: “I think we can improve still. Not necessarily results because that would mean winning all three trophies.

“What we can improve is the quality of our game. We can consolidate and strengthen our way of playing and stay among the top eight teams in Europe on a regular basis.

“This is the most important objective for the club.”

It remains to be seen whether Juve will still have the core of their midfield next season with Paul Pogba the potential subject of a big-money move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs, while Andrea Pirlo has been linked with a switch to the MLS.
