Manchester United have confirmed they have agreed a deal to sign Sporting Lisbon’s Marcos Rojo and winger Nani is to rejoin his former club on loan.

The Red Devils are looking to add to their squad with just two weeks to go before the end of the transfer window.

Last week Rojo had hinted about a possible move to Old Trafford and was then absent from training as he tried to force his move through.

Rojo, who can play at left-back or centre-back, recently admitted that he would love to play under Louis van Gaal.

He said: “It’s a dream to play at Manchester United and I am very proud of having the chance of working with van Gaal.

“I spoke with Juan Sebastian Veron about Manchester United when we were at Estudiantes. I have always liked English football, and I should adapt to this new playing style easily.”

United have now confirmed the deal which will see Nani return to Portuguese football. The winger left the club in 2007 but has recently found himself out of the first-team picture.

Confirming the move, a United statement read: “Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached an agreement with Sporting Lisbon to sign defender Marcos Rojo, subject to a medical and agreeing personal terms.

“A further announcement will be made when the process is complete.”

United lost their opening Premier League game 2-1 to Swansea last Saturday and they can now be backed at odds of 10.00 to win the title this season.
