Inter Milan director general Marco Fassone believes that out-of-favour Atletico Madrid striker Alessio Cerci would be the perfect fit for the Italian club.
Cerci earned a move to Atletico over the summer after impressing in Serie A with Torino where he bagged 13 goals in 37 appearances in all competitions last term.
The Italian was signed for an undisclosed fee but has struggled to break into the first team as a regular and has yet to start a single La Liga game.
The 27-year-old is behind fellow summer signings Mario Mandzukic, Raul Jimenez and Antoine Griezmann in the pecking order.
Fassone has revealed in an interview with Corriere dello Sport that the Italian giants are big admirers of the striker but he conceded that he may be out of their price range.
Fassone said: “A club like ours must pay attention to free transfer opportunities, or players that are not finding any space in their respective line-ups.
“Cerci’s profile fits our requirements: he’s Italian, he knows Serie A and he’s good.
“But it’s difficult to see him coming within our [economic] parameters. We have not broached the subject with Atletico.”
Inter’s current attacking options have failed to have the desired impact in front of goal with Mauro Icardi the top scorer on seven and loanee Pablo Osvaldo just in behind with five goals.
However, Rodrigo Palacio, George Puscas and Federico Bonazzoli have all failed to hit the back of the net and Fassone believes Cerci could provide some extra threat.
