Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini is adamant his side can challenge for the title next season.

The Chilean has seen his side maintain their push for a top-two spot in the Premier League in recent weeks. The Citizens put the pressure on Arsenal thanks to a 4-2 win over Swansea at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday.

Pellegrini’s side are now five points in front of the Gunners but Arsene Wenger’s men do have a game in hand in midweek. Goals from James Milner, Wilfried Bony and a brace from Yaya Toure ensured City picked up the three points against the Swans.

City’s win on Sunday has now guaranteed them a top-three finish and Pellegrini insists they can do better next year.

“We needed to win to ensure we were in Europe,” he told Sky Sports.

“It was an open game. We conceded two easy goals but I am happy with the performance against a good team.

“If you cannot be champion, it’s important to finish in the position we are. This year I think we lost too many point against teams in the relegation positions and also in both cups.

“We need to improve a lot of things but I am absolutely sure that we will be a very strong team next season and we will be involved with the title again.”

City will also be looking to improve their form in the domestic cup competitions after exiting both the FA Cup and Capital One Cup before the latter stages after falling victim to Middlesbrough and Newcastle United respectively.
