Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal insists his side did not deserve to beat Crystal Palace in their Premier League clash on Saturday.

The Red Devils, 9.00 to win the Premier League title, were unable to get past the Eagles at Selhurst Park as United were held to a third successive goalless draw.

On another day Palace could have grabbed the win, as both Yannick Bolasie and Yohan Cabaye missed chances. United’s best chance fell to midfielder Ander Herrera, but the former Athletic Bilbao star miscued his effort.

The result leaves Van Gaal’s men fourth in the league, but the Dutchman insists they did not deserve to get anything else but a point.

“We were not the better team today so we did not deserve to win,” said Van Gaal. “Palace had more chances than us so I cannot complain about the result.

“It was obvious that Crystal Palace started very well. They won every second or third ball and kept the pressure on us.

“Then after 15 minutes we came into the match and played our positional match. The big chance of Ander Herrera we have to finish that and we didn’t finish.”

Van Gaal now turns his attention to Tuesday’s Champions League clash against CSKA Moscow at Old Trafford and he is confident his side can find their form in front of goal.

“It can change in one match,” he said. “Let it be against CSKA Moscow because we need a victory. We have to hope that we score against Moscow because then we talk in a different way.”
