Blackburn Rovers boss Gary Bowyer has decided to extend Nathan Delfouneso’s trial spell at Ewood Park after the former Aston Villa striker scored in Saturday’s friendly at Oldham Athletic.
The 24-year-old scored twice in four Premier League starts and 27 appearances from the substitutes’ bench for Villa before joining Blackpool on a free transfer last summer.
He scored three times in 38 Championship matches for the Seasiders as they suffered relegation and was released by the club at the end of last term.
Delfouneso, who was loaned out to Burnley, Leicester City and Coventry City as well as Blackpool during his time at Villa, recently returned to England after a trial with Dutch second-tier club Go Ahead Eagles.
He scored one goal and set up another in the 2-0 friendly win at Oldham and is expected to feature in Rovers’ next pre-season encounter against Bury.
Bowyer said: “It was his first 45 minutes for us and he got himself on the end of a fantastic cross as well as playing a great part in the second goal.
“He’s going to spend a couple of weeks with us and we’ll have a closer look at him and go from there, but he’s done himself no harm whatsoever with that goal. We’ve provided him with the opportunity, we’ve just got to see him kick on now.”
Blackburn are 8.50 to be promoted from the Championship in the 2015-16 season and are 26.00 to win the title.
