Celtic have been lauded for some of their attacking play under Brendan Rodgers this season but full-back Kieran Tierney wants to start keeping some clean sheets.

The Hoops have conceded in all five Scottish Premiership games to date, with their sole shutout arriving in a 5-0 League Cup win over Motherwell at Celtic Park last month.

Celtic welcome League One table-toppers Alloa Athletic to Glasgow on Wednesday for a quarter-final tussle in the League Cup and Tierney is eager to start ensuring that one goal is enough for the Hoops to win games.

Celtic dropped their first points of the season in a 2-2 draw at Inverness on Sunday when Alex Fisher netted in the 89th minute. Tom Rogic put the Hoops ahead in the first half only for Billy King to equalise.

Scott Sinclair regained the lead before half time but, despite dominating, it was not enough to ensure maximum points. “We’re working on it (keeping a clean sheet) on the training field and hopefully it will come together,” said Tierney.

“If we score one goal, we want that to win us a game. We don’t want to concede.” Tierney is targeting silverware for Celtic this season, with the League Cup the first available opportunity.

The teenager had his first taste of cup action last season but Celtic lost semi-finals in both the League Cup and Scottish Cup.

At Hampden Park, Celtic lost to Ross County despite Gary Mackay-Steven scoring after only 26 seconds in the League Cup semi-final while a penalty shoot-out loss to Rangers ended their Scottish Cup hopes.

Tierney wants to sample cup success this season. “We want to win a cup,” he said. “It comes quickly and if we win this game we’re into the semi-finals.

“There were a few lows in Europe last year and the semi-finals weren’t great but it was good experience for me as I hadn’t played in either before then.

If we can get to the semi-final I can use that experience as well and hopefully go on to win it.” Celtic are 6.00 to beat Alloa 3-0 in their last-eight tie.
