Jurgen Klopp says he will use Liverpool’s extra time on the training ground this season will allow him to create the best “team” possible.

The Reds failed to qualify for Europe last term and thus will not have the distraction of playing three times a week.

This will allow Klopp to continually field his strongest team possible and means he will not have to rotate his squad as regularly as he did towards the end of last term.

With this season looking set to be one of the most competitive Premier League campaigns ever, not playing in Europe will help ensure the Reds are fresh heading into the final weeks.

Liverpool finished second last time they did not have any international commitments and although a similar result appears unlikely, they will certainly have designs on a top four spot, a feat they are 2.50 to achieve.

The boss believes not having any distractions will benefit his side, as the lack of games will generate much needed competition for first team places.

“In the end the only positive thing about not playing European football this year is that we have more time to train and that is what we have to use, 100 per cent,”

Klopp told the club’s official website. “That’s why we need to create a very strong team in the best understanding of the word ‘team’. We need to have competition.

“We need a situation where the players push themselves and each one pushes the other for each position and wants to be in the team because you have time to recover.”

Liverpool begin their campaign at Arsenal on Sunday, a game they are 3.30 to win, with the draw 3.00 and the Gunners 2.30.
