Jose Mourinho is refusing to speculate on whether or not French midfielder Paul Pogba will join Manchester United in the coming days.
Pogba, who was at United in his younger days, left Old Trafford for Juventus in 2012 where he has since flourished into one of Europe’s most potent dynamic attacking midfield players.
His form for France at Euro 2016 served to heighten his profile still further and United are widely believed to be on the cusp of signing the 23-year-old back for a world-record transfer that could total £100m.
Mourinho is in Shanghai on a pre-season tour and he says he won’t be commenting on Pogba’s future as he is a Juventus player.
“I don’t confirm and I don’t deny [that a deal is imminent]. First of all, it’s not correct to speak of players of other clubs. He’s a Juventus player not a United player,”
Mourinho told reporters. Old Trafford executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has not travelled to China and is said to be working on securing a deal to bring Pogba to England.
Having taken over from Louis van Gaal in May, Mourinho says the Red Devils board have so far provided everything that he has asked of them in the transfer market.
The Portuguese says his plan was to sign four players and, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrik Mkhitarayan and Eric Bailly already arrived, he is confident that Woodward will deliver the final piece of his jigsaw during this transfer window.
“My board did a fantastic work to do 75 per cent of the job I asked. I asked for four players and gave them a few options.
They did for me 75 per cent of the job. We have just 25 per cent to do before August 31. We are in great position to do a good market,” he added.
Manchester United are 4.50 to win the title next season while they are 1.73 to give Mourinho victory in his first Premier League game away to Bournemouth on August 14.
