Jose Mourinho believes his Chelsea side showed they are ready to win the title during their battling 2-0 win at Stoke on Monday.

The Blues, who are 7.50 to claim this season’s Champions League, lost 3-2 at the Britannia last season but just as they have on a number of previous occasions so far this term, showed they can win in whichever way is required, taking the lead early through skipper John Terry, before Cesc Fabregas sealed the points on 77 minutes.

It means Mourinho’s men will sit three points clear on Christmas day, a statistic they will take heart from having one the Premier League the last three times they have found themselves in that situation.

However, things look like they could be tricky for the West Londoners over the festive period, with fourth place West Ham set to travel across the capital to Stamford Bridge on Boxing Day, for a game the Blues are 1.32 to win, with the 4.98 and the Hammers priced at 8.96.

High flying Southampton and Tottenham are also on the agenda in the next few weeks, but the Special One is a man full of confidence and feels his side’s performance on Monday proved they’re now ready to lift the Premier League trophy.

“It was a fantastic performance,” he said after the match. “It was one of those matches where the victory means more than just the three points.

“You can feel the right spirit, the right atmosphere and what the players are ready to do; to try and win the championship. I’m very pleased, as we won in one of the most difficult places to win.”
