Blackburn are waiting on news of Jordan Rhodes after the forward was stretchered off in Saturday’s win over Accrington Stanley.

Second half strikes from trialist Dean Furman and winger Craig Conway were enough for the Championship outfit to emerge victorious at the Crown Ground and the Rovers squad will now head to Portugal to continue their pre-season preparations.

It remains to be seen if Rhodes will join them though, after he was stretchered off on the half hour mark with what looked like an ankle injury.

Although the incident did not look too serious at the time, the medical staff took plenty of care over the striker and he left the ground on crutches.

The Scotland international has again been the subject of plenty of transfer rumours in recent weeks, with fellow Championship outfit Middlesbrough believed to be keen.

However, the 25-year-old could be set for a delayed start to his campaign, although boss Gary Bowyer is keen not to rush to any premature conclusions.

“He’s just got a knock on his ankle but it is too early to assess it at this moment,” Bowyer told the club’s official website. “We’ll see how he is on Sunday and we’ll go from there.

“Hopefully it was just precautionary that he came off. He’s in very good hands with the medical team that we have at Brockhall.”

Rovers will be hoping the striker will be fit to take part in the opening weekend clash against Wolves, a game they are 2.40 to win, with the draw 3.20 and Kenny Jackett’s men 2.88.

An early victory against one of their potential promotion rivals would give them a huge boost, with them currently priced at 26.00 to win the Championship and 8.50 to be promoted.
