Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed captain Jordan Henderson should return to action for the Premier League clash with Manchester United on January 15.

The 26-year-old picked up a heel injury during his side’s 1-0 victory over Manchester City on New Year’s Eve and missed the 2-2 draw at Sunderland on Monday.

The England international will also sit out the FA Cup third-round clash with Plymouth Argyle on Sunday while he is unlikely to be risked for the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-final encounter with Southampton on Wednesday evening.

However, the former Sunderland man is likely to return for Liverpool’s next league match at Old Trafford.

“Actually, it is good news if you want – we had this issue with the heel and we had to take him out for a while, but he is already on the way back,” Klopp said.

“He has no chance for the weekend and I am sure no risk for Southampton, but then I think it is absolutely possible that he’s back.”

Henderson has played an integral role for Liverpool so far this season, featuring in 19 of their 20 league matches to date, as Klopp’s men have propelled themselves into second position in the league standings, five points behind leaders Chelsea.

The Reds have not claimed the title since 1990 and are priced at 5.50 to end the drought this season while they are available at 1.22 to finish in the top four.
