John Obi Mikel says Chelsea are still aiming to win the Premier League title this season despite their mixed form to date.

The Blues, who are 17.00 to top the standings, made a strong start to the campaign under new boss Antonio Conte although Premier League defeats to Liverpool and Arsenal saw them lose momentum.

However, a win at Hull before the international break has turned them back in the right direction ahead of Saturday’s visit of champions Leicester.

Chelsea are 1.60 to win the game, with the draw 4.20 and the Foxes are 5.50. Mikel is yet to appear so far this term after being given extra time off due to his participation with Nigeria at the Olympics.

The 29-year-old admits the squad have been pleased with Conte’s input so far, commending the way in which he handles his players.

Despite their doubters, Mikel says the Blues still believe they can win silverware this season and sees no reason why they cannot push for the title.

“I can only see Chelsea winning trophies with this guy and hopefully we can achieve that,” he told Goal.

“It is going to be a very interesting season with the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton – everyone has spent a lot of money and it is going to be very difficult “The manager knows what he wants, we are behind him, we support him as players and we have to go with him, so I think that everyone is looking forward to this season.

“We want to be, at the end of the season, on the top and, if we can win it, why not [go for it].”
